Brocklehurst is the largest neighbourhood in Kamloops, about 16 percent of the city's population, sitting on the flats west of the North Shore between the Thompson River and the Batchelor hills, with Tranquille to the west and the airport, built in 1939, at its edge. The land was BC Fruitlands orchard from 1908 and turned to suburban lots when Brocklehurst was its own municipality from 1971 until it joined Kamloops in 1973, so much of the housing is 1960s and 1970s ranchers and split-levels with crawl spaces, unsealed rim joists and attics that were insulated to the standards of that decade.
It is also the warmest micro-climate in the city, up to four degrees warmer than neighbouring areas, which shows up as summer cooling bills rather than only winter heating.
